In Zatouna, Arcadia, the historic stone school building from 1919 now houses the Mikis Theodorakis Museum, dedicated to the life and work of the renowned Greek composer. In this very place, where he lived in exile during the years of the dictatorship, visitors can explore his artistic and political journey through archival material, photographs, and exhibits.

Life in exile
Follow in the footsteps of the great Greek composer and explore his life in Zatouna during his exile.
In August 1968, Mikis Theodorakis was sent to Zatouna, where his family joined him, staying until October 1969. Life in the Arcadian mountains was far from easy. Restrictions, harsh measures, isolation, and intimidation marked his daily life. Despite these hardships, hope, humanity, and creativity kept the flame of freedom and democracy alive in Mikis’s soul.
